رائع الدرر ورائق الزهر في أخبار خير البشر
French translation of Ibn Fāris's collection of traditions about the Prophet, in the recension handed down by the masters of the Islamic West.
The author
Abū l-Ḥusayn Aḥmad Ibn Fāris (d. 395/1004) is known above all as a lexicographer. This collection shows him otherwise: as a transmitter, gathering the traditions about the Prophet and ordering them into a sustained narrative.
The Maghribī recension
The translation does not follow just any copy: its basis is the recension transmitted in the Islamic West, the one the masters of the Maghrib read, annotated and taught.
The margins
The Arabic edition carries marginal notes drawn from Ibn Diḥya's commentary and other glosses. The translation restores them, for they record how the text was received as much as what it says.
